The sales tax is a regressive tax that disproportionately burdens the poor.  In his defense, Corzine is also proposing to eliminate the income tax on people who earn less than $25,000 a year, which is a sound proposal. Governor Codey has been a vocal advocate of increased aid for people suffering from mental illness during his years in the New Jersey state legislature and he is continuing this advocacy as Governor.
